Recycling Concerns
Sandra Barnett, Director
Recycling Department: 812 B Street
Phone 785-325-2271 The Washington County Recycling Department is experiencing problems with trash and unclean items. We ask the public's assistance in remedying this situation. Only items that are recyclable, clean, sorted and have lids and rings removed can be used for recycling. Anything else is considered trash, and must be disposed of in the proper manner.
The recycling department is at 812 B Street in Washington and is open from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. You may leave acceptable recyclable items on the weekends in the recycling trailer provided at that address.
All efforts are going to be made to continue the recycling program, and to include the end of the year recycling credit, however, if the problem with trash and dirty containers continues, the county may be forced to discontinue this program. |
Items we will accept are:
Items we CAN NOT accept, and are considered trash: Oleo containers, foil pie tins, Styrofoam, carbon or wax coated paper, plastic wrappers, bags or trays, flower pots, pill containers, drinking cups or anti-freeze jugs, tires, appliance plastics.
Any item that is recycled is not going into the landfill. This saves the tax payer dollars. If this program has to end, there will be more items going to the landfill, which will be an added expense for all. Thank you to everyone who has recycled in the past. Making this effort will help us to continue the recycling program in the future. Please call 785-325-2271 with any questions. |
